The Purpose
To Be A MidLife Self-Care Service Provider Who Amplifies Aging + Culture + Self-Care
Brief Version: Tracy Aging Aloud is about [pro] aging, [pro] culture, [pro] self-care. I hope to be of service through:
art - to serve you spirit + space
age positivity - to serve your aging narrative and delete the "anti" out of aging
adornments - to serve your your mind + body + full self
amplification - to center that which is traditionally not centered
Translation: Welcome to my "Amplification Atelier" where I amplify aging, culture and self-care through art, writing and self-care info, tips, resources and merch for women over 50. This is the space where aging, culture and self care are always trending.
Soapbox Version: What say we chuck the "anti-aging" space and head on down the street to the pro-aging party, because what I'm bringing to the party is much better than the toxic perpetuation of ageism. This space is about sharing all the pro-aging things I can find that will serve you in various aspects of your life.
Our minds have been highly conditioned to think and believe certain things when it comes to aging and people of all ages have work to do, to change ageist stereotypes, mindsets and outdated narratives. However, there are positive changes to witness (within the framework of we still have so much anti-ageism work to do) on social media platforms and in real life, such as the "Age Positive Movement" AND the "Silver Hair Movement".
We're also seeing brands slowly starting to change their "anti-aging" stance in their business and marketing practices, which is great news because they are large contributors to societal ageism. I could go on and on about this, so let's just move on to the next paragraph, shall we?
It's a woman's right to choose her aging narrative and she shouldn't be punished, disrespected, or devalued because she's aging. Older women shouldn't be bullied into aging how society, nor anyone in their circle dictates.
Tracy Aging Aloud supports positive aging in an anti-aging world. My goal is to creatively serve/center/uplift/inform silver and non silver sisters mind, body and whole self through information,
resources and products because Older Women Matter™.
The Art
Self-Taught Artist + Recycling Handmaker = Moi
I'm a self-taught artist, illustrator, content creator, copious,
handmaker and [accidental], pro-aging, creative activist. My lighthearted, black + white drawings are an examination and commentary on ageism through an artistic lens and belie the serious subject matter I'm unpacking on the frontlines of the "Age Positive Movement".
My work counteracts societal messaging that promotes the prohibition of aging.
I make EVERYTHING, which I call "adornments" because they are made with lots of love, to adorn your body, your home and your life.
The Personal
Parental Caregiving + Self Neglect + Another Birthday =
Getting Woke
Transparent Bio: after spending years [and years] being the sole caregiver to older family members and not paying attention to myself, my health, my life and how small it had become, I awoke to the fact that it was [past] time for some hardcore self-care.
Waking up didn't happen overnight. It didn't happen after I started having health issues due to caregiving, nor did it happen after landing in an unpleasant financial place, also due to caregiving. I became "woke" the moment I was carried out of my mother's home on a stretcher, feeling unlike anything I'd ever felt before - THAT was the mule that kicked me in the head and made me aware of my own self-neglect.
When I woke up from that experience, I 'woke' up. Soon afterward, I looked in the mirror, asked myself some hard questions and concluded that it was time to say goodbye to the self-neglected, financially-broken woman who was looking back at me and begin my new, midlife chapter. Yes. I could be shattered over having to reboot from ground zero ("at my age") and I'd be lying if I said no tears were shed, BUT I don't want to focus on spilled milk and truth is, I'm quite excited about this new chapter because new things are exciting, even if they're scary and this new experience will be full of learning, sharing, service, connecting, self [re]discovery, self development and "building back better".
Since pouring into my own cup is unatural to me, I decided to make ye olde search engine my new stomping grounds and find out all-the-things about self-care. Whatever I find and learn will be shared with you. Hopefully, it will serve you and your life.
My name is Tracy and I hope you'll travel on this new journey with me. Cheers to new beginnings!
